SABOR VIVO
Prototype, Pickling Serveware, 2024
Rooted in the cultural richness of Mexican culinary tradition, Sabor Vivo is a functional design project that reimagines the everyday ritual of pickling as a meaningful act of cultural preservation, sustainability, and self-expression.
The design is centered around the preparation of jalapeños en escabeche, a bold and time honored method of preservation that transforms simple ingredients into a vibrant, living condiment. Inspired by the heritage of Mexican home kitchens and the routines of modern makers, this piece serves both as a practical kitchen tool and an object of cultural storytelling.
Through a blend of organic form, sustainable material choices (recycled glass, volcanic rock, and black cherry wood), and intuitive function, the design offers a sensory experience: from the sound of sealing to the tactile grip of the pickling fork. The modularity and elegant simplicity invite the user to engage, learn, and enjoy, whether for preservation or presentation.
Sabor Vivo is not just about storing food, it's about preserving memories, celebrating roots, and giving form to the emotional and aesthetic rituals of nourishment.
